Having had the pleasure of watching the Washington Spirit this season, I can proudly say that they have had an exceptional 2024 season, working their way to second in the league while navigating through countless injuries and incorporating new faces. Overall, their mix of rookie and veteran players creates a blend of experience, young talent, and magical moments. As a person who has seen them play every game and has only missed one home game, I can attest to their incredible growth as a team during this season. When the Spirit plays Bay FC this Sunday, the game will be the culmination of their journey.

After the summer break, despite numerous injuries, the Spirit has had a strong end to the season. Those injuries include star rookie Croix Bethude, Andi Sullivan, Ouleymata Sarr, while Trinity Rodman and Leicy Santos both missed a handful of games during this time as well. Nevertheless, the Spirit went on a great run and showed that even without the big names on the field, they can still compete with the best. This playoff run has been marked by unforgettable goals, breathtaking saves, and tactical prowess. Just like the team, the support has grown this season as well; as the games have progressed, so has fan turnout. Experiencing the growth in support at the stadium has been nothing short of magical. With each game, the crowds get bigger and the support intensifies. The staff has even had to buy more giveaway items to accommodate the new fans. The Spirit feels like a big family, with the players, fans, and staff having a wonderful relationship.

If you come to the game, you will get to see the heroes from this season, including players like Casey Krueger, Trinity Rodman, and Leicy Santos. This is a well-balanced team, with veteran stars who provide leadership and emerging players who bring fresh energy and talent. Out of the seven rookies who joined the team this year, two of them were called up to the USWNT for the Olympics! I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with most of the team and can say from personal experience just how much they not only appreciate all the fans but also how the energy of the support is like having a 12th player during home games.

Sunday’s quarterfinal matchup is set to be an epic showdown. If you get a chance to grab a last-minute ticket to the game, take it. Getting to see this game would be an incredible experience. This match is a single-elimination game, so expect to see a lot of skill, strategy, and heart. With the Washington Spirit faithful rallying behind them, the team will be ready to put on a show. If you do decide to come, remember it’s Blackout themed. I can’t wait to see you at the game!
